Ceramic coating aftercare

How to Care for a Ceramic Coated Car

Safe washing and quick attention to water spots help a coating keep its gloss and water beading.

Follow the first-week instructions

The coating needs time to set. Avoid washing the vehicle until the wait time given for your coating has passed. If rain, bird droppings, or tree sap touches the paint early, contact the installer for advice instead of rubbing the surface.

Use a safe hand-wash routine

  1. Rinse loose dirt from the vehicle.
  2. Use a clean wash mitt and car shampoo.
  3. Keep wheel tools separate from paint tools.
  4. Wash from cleaner upper panels toward dirtier lower panels.
  5. Rinse thoroughly and dry with clean microfiber towels.

Avoid automatic brush washes

Brushes can hold dirt from other vehicles and create swirl marks. A touchless wash is usually safer when hand washing is not available, but it may not remove all road film.

Do not let hard water dry on the paint

Water spots can still form on a coated vehicle. Dry the vehicle after washing and remove sprinkler water or hard water as soon as practical.

Use the right products

Use a normal automotive shampoo unless the coating maker recommends something different. Avoid abrasive cleaners, harsh household products, and unknown waxes or polishes.

Schedule maintenance when performance changes

Weak water beading can come from dirt and road film sitting on top of the coating. A careful deep-clean wash may restore the coating before stronger work is considered.

Coating care checklist

Keep these habits simple.

01

Use clean tools

Keep wash mitts, drying towels, and wheel tools clean and separate.

02

Wash regularly

Do not let heavy dirt and road film build up for long periods.

03

Dry the paint

Dry after washing to reduce mineral spots and streaks.

04

Ask before polishing

Polishing can remove or weaken a coating, so get advice first.
